Propositions, a collage series that began in 2016, is an ongoing contemplation of ornamental materials which usually exist in our periphery, imbued with histories which have been eroded through reiteration. I am interested in unpacking how ornament has directly framed my relationship to home and influenced intimate understandings of the self. Over the past 6 years Propositions has comprised of cut paper collages of fragments of domestic ornamentation, architecture, and textiles sourced from “traditional” home décor books and magazines ranging from the late 1970’s to present day. The collages most often consist of less than 5 elements pieced together surrounded by a sea of white paper. Elements are chosen and paired based on pattern, lighting, texture, and colour creating uncannily modern forms.
